"I've always dreamed of having my own log cabin. I fell in love with wooden structures in the mountains, but we also often visited my sister, who built a log cabin, and that's where I started observing how they were built. I found inspiration from pictures on the internet, and we even visited some log cabins - we went, for example, to see Liptovská Maru, where more than twenty log cabins from the Slovak company Drevodom Rajec are located. So we adopted the front part of the house from there, and I liked the design of the back part from an American log cabin I saw online. My sister recommended the " eyebrow dormer" roof feature, and I found a model of a stone fireplace on American websites as well... The final design was created by an architect from the chosen construction company using the pictures and photos we collected. We searched for an architect here in the Czech Republic, but we had the opportunity to go to Žilina in Slovakia again, where our son was competing in figure skating championships, and we combined the trip with a visit to the nearby headquarters of Drevodom. We met with the very helpful and pleasant owner, Miloš Bronček, and the company's approach was excellent, with a price that was more acceptable than what other companies offered. So we agreed to proceed with the construction.

We approached the log cabin in a very generous style; there's a lot of wood here. Although the people at Drevodom told us that owners often build brick walls inside, from the beginning, I knew I wanted the entire structure to be made of wood, so the only brick wall we have is in the bathroom. I chose large round logs (35 cm in diameter) more for their aesthetic appeal than for their insulating functionality. The most important thing for me was how the house would look.

We saw the framework made of round logs for the first time on a construction site in Rajecká Dolina. There were so many partially built log cabins that I didn't know where to look. One of them was truly ours, and we had to decide where the sockets and electrical wiring would be, which was quite challenging to visualize. However, the experts advised us, and then we just waited for the log cabin to be delivered to our pine forest.

We transported the spruce wood from Slovakia to our company, which is also involved in construction and transportation. Therefore, we have smaller vehicles that can move around in rough terrain. Loaded trucks would never have made it through the pine trees, and the construction company was concerned about that. We have a funny story related to the arrival of the trucks - a friend happened to see them and assumed they brought us nice firewood. She found out from her husband: 'That's their house!'

The assembly of the log cabin itself was very fast; a skilled team put it together in just fourteen days. Insulation is inserted into the space between the logs - there's a groove in each round log, which is filled with memory foam strips attached to a textile material, and the insulation is sheep's wool placed between the strips. We decided on Drevodom Rajec as the construction company in winter, poured the foundation slab in the summer, and at the end of summer, the round logs were delivered, and assembly began. That was in 2011, so it took three more years to bring the log cabin to its current form.

The log construction has settled by fifteen centimeters so far, and we are still awaiting slight movement. The balcony is supported by three pillars, under which I loosened the anchor bolts. I personally went around with an assembly wrench, and when I couldn't loosen them, I called for some male strength. At first, I was afraid of such responsibility, but the construction tells you how much it needs to settle. The advice from the guys at the company was enough for me: to loosen the bolt only when it can be turned by hand and then tighten it back with hand. You learn everything as you go with the progress of the construction."
